The Florence District is developing a new district-wide ministry which will eventually include local church ministry leaders doing ministry in Clusters.
The first group to be organized will be the local church Lay Leaders. The Lay Leaders of each church will meet with one of the seven clusters in the district on a regular basis. The purpose of these regular meetings will be for fellowship, training, and cooperation in the various church ministries.
Each cluster will have a Lay representative from each church and one Pastor from the Cluster in an advisory position. The Lay Cluster leaders will meet to organize and train for their leadership position; then they will meet with the remainder of the local church Lay Leaders at one of the churches in the Cluster.
In addition to fellowship and training, one of the first items of business is to organize other ministries into Clusters. These will be done over a period of time. One of the first ministries to be organized by the Lay Leaders will be the Chairpersons of the Church Councils. They will eventually meet separately from the Lay Leaders group. but their purpose will also be for fellowship and training.
The organizing will continue until other ministries can be included. Some of these ministries will be Nurture, Outreach, Mission, Membership, Finance, and others.
The training for these ministries will be conducted at one of the churches in the Cluster. This will allow training to be closer to the home church rather than having large training events at a central location. We have learn through the Evaluations of our training events that training needed to be more frequent and more conveniently located.
The district has scheduled a meeting of the Cluster Coordinators and the Clergy Representatives will the District Superintendent, the District Specialist, the District Lay Leader, and the Cluster Coordinator on Tuesday July 14 at 6:30 PM at Scranton UMC, Scranton, SC.
